Randy O’Dell House becomes WELL Certified

The spaces we spend time in can significantly impact our wellbeing. Everything from the air we breathe to the water we drink and even the light that surrounds us – can greatly impact our health. We are happy to share that Randy O’Dell House is WELL Certified™ at the Silver level, making us only the second building in Alberta to attain this recognition. WELL looks at how the physical and social environments around us can affect our health, how we feel, and how well we do. This achievement is a testament to our unwavering commitment to creating a healthy and supportive environment for individuals impacted by cancer.

Designing for Health and Wellness

Randy O’Dell House was conceived with the vision to meet not only the emotional, social, and practical needs of individuals affected by cancer but also to align with the rigorous standards set by the WELL Standard.

This standard encompasses seven core concepts: air, water, nourishment, light, fitness, comfort, and mind. The building incorporates features such as the use of healthy and non-toxic building materials, ample natural light with minimal glare, thoughtful layouts promoting space and airflow, and calming influences to inspire comfort. By adhering to these design considerations, Randy O’Dell House provides a space where occupants can experience an enhanced sense of well-being.

The Value of WELL Certification

WELL Certification is no small achievement. The health and wellness strategies that a building must have to achieve WELL Certification are scientifically designed, carefully measured, and closely monitored.

Projects such as Randy O’Dell House go through a meticulous enrollment process, starting with qualification, project management guidance, and then over months are carefully monitored and measured with a scorecard. Projects seeking WELL Certification earn points based on performance outcomes for policy, design, and operational strategies, with four certification levels available: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Randy O’Dell House successfully attained the Silver level, signifying our commitment to providing a healthy and conducive environment for all who step through its doors.

Creating a Nurturing Community

The WELL Certification is more than just a recognition of architectural excellence; it represents our profound commitment to the individuals who rely on Randy O’Dell House for support. By meeting thorough standards in construction, building materials, and design, the facility provides a healthy and nurturing environment where individuals can find solace, support, and a renewed sense of well-being. With cancer patients and their caregivers as the primary occupants, the certification ensures that the programs and assistance provided within the facility are offered in a certified healthy environment.
